@ C.C. Lowell Art Supply Co., 455 Pleasant St, Worcester, MA 01609 Join this six-week class to learn the fundamentals of watercolor and how to combine its fluid nature with more structured, Micron Pen line-work. All art backgrounds are welcome so no drawing skills are required.
WHAT TO EXPECT: This class is built off of my Intro to Watercolor series, so the first 2-3 classes will be focused on exploring basic watercolor skills like color mixing, water control, mark making and washes. The remaining classes will focus on completing progressively more complex projects, ending in a pen and watercolor portrait of a lobster shack (shown in photo). Throughout the class I’ll also introduce meditative warm-up exercises and simpler illustration styles that you can come back to when you are looking for a short project. This class will take place at historic C.C. Lowell Art Supply Co. at 455 Pleasant St, Worcester, MA 01609 and they're offering students a 10% on store items and putting together an art supply kit for the class that will be available for purchase. |

Bring a friend and paint your own 5x7" watercolor and ink portrait of your favorite cocktail or mocktail! I'll provide line drawings of different cocktail glasses, accessories and ingredients that you'll mix and match and then trace on your page. Next we'll outline your composition in permanent black pen before bringing it to life with watercolor. Along the way I'll share tips for tracing/transferring drawings to watercolor paper and some painting techniques that you can take with you for future projects. Seasonally themed classes will have the option of both the original set of cocktail ingredients and seasonally-themed ingredients.

Grab a friend and let's paint plants!
In this two hour workshop, we'll walk through some techniques for painting and drawing plants in different degrees of complexity to create a batch of hand-made postcards. Your 4x6" canvases can be mailed to your friends or framed as mini works of art. I can provide the paper and painting materials, but you are always welcome to bring your own. |
This is a great, short class for students new to watercolor that could benefit from hands-on learning and practicing with other beginners. Watercolor is a tricky medium and working in a group setting is a great way to learn from each other's challenges. The atmosphere of the class is laid back and focused on finding enjoyment in a style of watercolor that works for you.
In weeks one and two of this course, we cover the basic techniques of watercolor and begin trouble-shooting common mistakes people run into when working with this medium. You'll take time to familiarize yourself with your color palette and brushes and practice basic wash techniques and water control. The second two weeks of this class are more project-based and depend on the interests of the class. Potential projects include still lifes, landscape paintings, floral paintings, abstract watercolor exercises, and experimenting with other elements like salt, rubbing alcohol, masking fluid and collage for a range of textures.
